please help re cat neutering?
I cant keep the collar on her to stop her licking the wound. Ive tried bandages, a baby vest, nylon stockings, but she is very distressed especially with the collar, (so that's not an option any more)and sore and she gets everything off and keeps licking. Im afraid she'll have to have another anesthetic if she breaks the stitches. any ideas?? and how long is this ordeal to last ? im sorry i got it done at this moment
Don't be sorry you got it done. It was the best thing to do. The stress of girl cat hormones is much worse than this.
I think you should call your vet for advice. Follow up care is still part of their job.
How much does she lick the stitches?
I've never needed a collar or anything for any girls I've had. They would lick a little, but never enough to do damage. My girl now actually decided the kitten we found was going to be hers right after she was spayed. She got him to dry nurse on her so he was suckling and kneading on her belly. It freaked me out, but I just kept watching the incision. There was never any damage, any infection, or any problems.
If she licks too much it would be a problem, but do you know that she will lick the area excessively?
Please don't regret spaying her. It was absolutely the right thing to do. I'm sorry she's worrying you so much, but this is a short term issue. She's going to live a longer, healthier, and happier life because she was spayed.
Keep in touch with your vet and try not to worry too much unless she actually does cause a problem. It's always possible all the extra effort to cover up the area is stressing her out and making her motivated to lick.
