P plus 3 Days

Blech. I officially hate potty training! It is, by far, my least favorite parenting task yet! Lex had a little success on Saturday, sat on the potty many times and peed 4 times! Logan sat many times, but just sat…peeing was done on the floor, chair, carpet, ya know. By the end of the day we realized we’d pushed way too hard and we pulled back. We’re taking a much calmer approach now. We’ll get there, it’s just going to take a little longer than expected. Did I mention it was even worse than I expected??

It’s finally here. We can avoid it no longer. We MUST potty train these boys of ours. We have set the day - tomorrow and we have gathered information and accessories. Wish us luck!

We let the boys pick out new underpants the other day. Thomas (of course) for Logan and Spiderman/Hulk/Wolverine for Lex. Tonight we went to get stickers for rewards, new straw cups to encourage LOTS of drinking, and new snack cups for lots of salty snacks all day. Daddy will be staying here at home and working with Lex and Mommy is going to go up to Nana & Papa’s with Logan and working with him there. We only have one toilet (OH THE HORROR!) and the boys think potty chairs are simply play things. And really, is cleaning out the potty chair bowl any better than changing diapers? I think not.

Caley found this great potty training e-book, so I bought it today and read it through.  I picked up a lot of great tips from her. Here’s hoping it all works out well! Should be a nice long weekend for all. :)

Our First Crawl-In Movie

We’ve been introducing the boys to the world of full length movies lately, in hopes to take them to a theater some time soon. We’ve recently watched … The Incredibles, Curious George and Cars. We’d had a bit of a long day yesterday completely rewiring our entire entertainment center, so while Caley went out to pick up a quick dinner I decided to set us up in the living room for dinner and a movie for the first time. The boys thought it was great fun, but they were a bit too distracted by the movie to actually eat. Perhaps we aren’t quite ready for it yet. They did enjoy The Muppet Movie, though.

Honey I fed the kids…I think

On Saturdays, we typically tag-team the whole childrearing aspect of our lives by taking turns catching up on the past week’s of sleep. Typically I’ll sleep in while Caley gets up with the boys and then around naptime or so he’ll lay down. Well yesterday I woke from my second nap of the day at about 6:30pm. Anyone who knows me, knows how rare this is.

As soon as I walk out the bedroom door I’m bombarded with two little faces asking me for crackers. “Why do they want crackers so soon after dinner?” I think to myself.

I head out to the living room and find Caley asleep on the couch. “Did you feed the boys dinner?” I asked him. “Uh huh” was his half-asleep reply. “They didn’t want to eat.”

Into the kitchen I go and find no evidence of dinner anywhere. “What did you feed the boys?” I hollered out to the living room. “Pancakes and eggs” came the reply. “Are you sure??? I don’t see anything in the kitchen that looks like dinner was had.”   “Ummmmm” comes the reply this time. “Did I just dream it??”

Apparently so…the boys had a slightly late dinner then, but at least they did, without doubt, have dinner.

Starting Over

Hmmm…you’re saying I’m indecisive? No…not at all. I forgot the most important thing Tom told us about picking a new theme. “Make sure it’s ‘widget ready’”. Well, I didn’t. So I’m on the hunt for a new theme again. Don’t get too attached. :D

Pregnancy Week #33

Our Age - 31 weeks
Time until we make our appearance +/- 3 weeks
(Twins are considered full term at 36 weeks)

November 21, 2003 - November 27, 2003

This week (crown-to-rump) we measure up to 12 inches each. Head-to-toe we measure up to 19.4 inches each! We each weigh about 4.4 pounds (2kg).

Mommy’s Note: Well, it’s been a bit of an interesting week. Wednesday night at about midnight I started feeling really bad. I knew, then, that I shouldn’t have been bragging about how wonderful I’d been feeling lately! I had a really bad backache and cramping in my stomach and was just feeling really bad overall. I took my blood pressure and it was at the top limit allowed by my pre-term labor team. I called the Labor & Delivery unit at the hospital and told them what was going on. They said that I should come in and be checked out. So Caley and I got in the car and arrived at Kaiser around 1am. I was so uncomfortable by the time that we got there, that Caley insisted on pushing me in a wheelchair. I only protested for about 2 seconds.Once we got up to L&D they got me on a monitor and checked both babies heartbeats. I had just gone through this monitoring earlier in the morning at my regular appointment, so the boys were less than thrilled to be ’strapped up’ again. Their little hearts were beating away. The monitor also showed that I was having quite a few contractions. The doctor came in and checked me to see if my contractions were changing my cervix. She said that they weren’t. That was a good sign. They drew some blood and checked for any signs of pre-eclampsia (pregnancy induced hypertension). All of the tests came back negative, so my high blood pressure earlier in the evening was probably just because I wasn’t feeling well and was starting to stress myself out a bit. They continued to monitor me for a couple of hours, then checked my cervix again to make sure it still wasn’t changing. During the few hours I was there my contractions really picked up to the point I was quite uncomfortable and was having to breathe through them. My cervix was still fine. The doctor did an ultrasound and found that Lex was completely wedged down in my pelvic area. No wonder I’d been so uncomfortable the past couple of days! She was even surprised how far down he was. They gave me three options. They said I could stay and continue to be monitored, but chances were that nothing would happen for awhile. They could give me a shot of terbutiline to try and stop the contractions or I could just go home and wait it out. I wasn’t too hip on getting any terbutiline, so I opted to just go home. We left the hospital at about 5:00am, absolutely exhausted!

We were able to get a few hours of sleep when we got home and then Caley went into full nesting mode. He felt that the house had to be in perfect order before we stepped foot out of it again. Once he was happy with the cleanliness level of the house we went up to my parents for some Thanksgiving dinner. After we came home Thursday night we were both able to get a lot more sleep.

Friday morning I was still feeling pretty miserable and was basically ready to head back up to the hospital and have these babies. I called L&D again and went over everything with them. I spoke to Nurse Kathleen and she was wonderful. She was one of those ‘tell it like it is’ nurses, not one of those pampering ‘let me say what will make you happy’ nurses. She said that she completely understood how miserable I am. This is how most singleton moms feel at 40 weeks. My body believes I’m now PAST 40 weeks and has honestly had enough. But she encouraged me to stay home and find a way to be comfortable. The bottom line is that yes, my boys would be ok if they were born now, but there is simply no better incubator for them than me! Even if I can stay pregnant for one more week, it will mean the world of difference to the boys. They’ll be able to eat more easily, hold their own body temperature and weight better and spend much less time in the NICU. I would rather be home and miserable with them still inside that to give birth to them and have to leave the hospital without them and have them stay in the NICU for 1-2 weeks! That really helped put it all into perspective and even though my pain level hasn’t changed at all, I’ve accepted it and am simply trying to make the best of it.

The boys seem oblivious to it all. They are as active as ever. That alone is a wonderful reassurance.

Pregnancy Week #03

My Age - 1 week
Time until I make my appearance - 37 weeks
April 25, 2003 - May 1, 2003

My mommy and daddy found out about me this week! They found out on Monday, April 28, 2003. Mommy knew at 4:00am - but she didn’t tell Daddy until later that evening.

Mommy had two tests done this week to make sure that I’m actually here and it isn’t just her imagination. You can read about them here.

I am very very small – about 0.006 inches long – smaller than the head of a pin. If I weren’t hiding inside my mommy you could actually see me with your naked eye.

200% Larger than Actual Size - 3 weeks

I am growing very fast. By this time next week I’ll be 7x bigger! That means I’m doubling in size EVERY day this week!

Here’s what I look like right now!
